Trinity Guild- The Spoiler

"This has gone too far."

"What has, Kaeli?  Your double-crossing the guild, or your double-crossing of me."  Kaeli turned her back on Teal, her red locks spinning a trail behind her.  Her face showed that she was filled with fury, but she just couldn't let him see that he was getting to her.  

"I did what was necess-"

"You stole, Kaeli, from your own guild.  What was I supposed to do?  They knew it was you, you were the only one to disappear."

"You let them brand me."  She reached a hand up to her face.  It stung every time she thought about it.  The tattoo itself was quite beautiful, as was the language it was written in, but Kaeli couldn't tolerate the mark.  

Ghost.

It signified her status to the guild and their intent towards her.  She escaped their hunt with not only her life, but guild secrets, and that wouldn't be tolerated.  

Teal's brand was at least easier to hide.  It ran from his shoulder to his elbow.  Simply enough, it said Traitor.  Fitting, Kaeli thought, how fitting.  She found herself scratching at her mark.  

"You were the one that led them to me, to the scepter.  Now it's in their hands again, and we're both as good as dead."  She turned to face him again and she noted his blank expression.   He diverted his eyes so as not to make contact with her.  "Not to mention what's going to happen to the rest of humanity under their rule.  I left for a reason, Teal.  Why couldn't you accept that?"

"I lo-"

"Don't even say it.  You had your chance.  I almost fell for you.  I thought you would actually protect me, that you would let me go."  She reached out and grabbed his arm, forcing him to look art her.  "You made me a promise once, do you remember what it is?"

Teal looked down, ashamed.  "I would destroy them before they got to you."  He looked up, anger in his eyes.  "But it was you that made the choice to go that far.  I warned you against it.  I made the promise because I didn't want anything bad to happen.  I thought you would get the hint."

"I did, Teal.  But I won't love a coward.  That's all you were, that's all you are, a cowardly servant of the Trinity Guild."

Teal stood in quiet shame for a moment.  He hated being called a coward, but he hated it even more when it was true.

"How many times do I have to appolog-"

"Do you honestly think that will keep us alive?"

"Us?"  Kaeli did not answer right away.  She narrowed her eyes and stared at him for a moment.  Teal wondered if she was calculating their odds of survival, or his worth to her.

"They've reclaimed the scepter.  The scepter was linked to me.  If you leave, just go, they won't be able to find you.  Don't try to be a hero."  Kaeli squeezed his arm before releasing it.  She turned and walked to the door, grabbing her coat off the hanger.  Teal stood motionless, not trusting himself enough to try to stop her.  To his relief, she paused in the doorway and turned to him.  "Stop trying to love me."

"I did.  I made some bad choices because of it."  She walked back towards him, arms behind her back, holding her jacket.  She stopped when she was standing toe to toe with him.  

"I hate you." She leaned forward and dropped her jacket.  She wrapped one arm around his waist, while the other plunged a knife into his chest.  She started crying.  "Let me hate you.  If you live, don't follow me."

Teal was in shock.  He grabbed her wrist and wrapped his other arm around her.  He clenched as pain shot through his body, but that didn't seem to effect her.  He whispered "I'm sorry" before collapsing.  Kaeli let him fall, knife still in his chest.  She turned, picked her jacket up, and walked out, crying.
